What if there’s a problem?

If you have a concern regarding your clinical care, please discuss this with your GP, maternity services, or contact 111. If you experience a life-threatening emergency, you should attend your nearest A&E or phone 999.

You will be given a card to carry with you to show to any medical professionals you may encounter, informing them that you are taking part in the PIONEER study and potentially taking Pravastatin. Your maternity notes and online medical records will be clearly marked to show that you are taking part in a clinical study that involves taking either Pravastatin or a placebo.

In the event of a medical emergency, healthcare professionals can contact an on-call pharmacist available 24 hours a day to access information about the treatment you are taking.

If you experience preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) you may be offered the medication Erythromycin (an antibiotic). There is a potential interaction between Pravastatin and Erythromycin, and they should not be taken at the same time. If you experience PPROM during the study and are prescribed Erythromycin, you will be asked to stop taking the study medication. You will not restart the study medication once your treatment for PPROM is stopped.
